The Urinals of Salz Welten

Salz Welten is an old salt mine located in the town of Bad Dürrnberg, Austria, adjacent to the German border. The mines offer a guided tour which features numerous slides and a boat across an underwater salt lake.

Salt has been mined from these mines for well over a thousand years, until they were closed just recently due to a drop in salt prices. The tour offers a rare glimpse into the history of salt mining in the Salzburg region of Austria. The mine itself extends well into German territory; markers tell the mine visitors where the border is located.
